Position Summary

Position Location: Key ESAB locations, but close interaction with the Stoody plant operations (Bowling Green, KY) will be expected.

This position is responsible for driving the profitable growth of ESAB hard facing product line (among other the Stoody brand and portfolio of offerings), both in the USA and globally. The role drives the P&L in close collaboration with regional sales and operation management.

This role also exists to ensure there's a focused approach on the product line, as well as hands-on / visible management and leadership style in a team environment. This role is accountable for ensuring that direct sales, product management, and operations exceed Customer expectations.

Performance Objectives and Responsibilities

Immediate Performance Objectives

To take a $70m business today and grow to $100m over the next 3 years (both organic and acquisition)

Optimize the pricing strategy to obtain the highest gross margins for the products: this includes recognition of changing costs of raw materials.


The Big-Picture/Strategic Deliverables

The hardfacing business is selling electrodes, wires and other welding consumables. It's a sub-set of the ESAB business in terms of the filler metals piece. Hardfacing/Stoody extends the life of welding products. Hard facing products are very specialized so you need to have a lot of knowledge in this arena. You need to understand the performance of the product in different environments. This role needs a technical knowledge base to understand customer problems and provide solutions. Many hard facing products are "non-standard" therefore experience on which product works where is very important.

The hard facing business has grown year on year, in spite of the oil and gas crash. The business is highly dependent on NAM for sales and we need to grow it across the globe. It's one of the most profitable businesses in ESAB. There's strong competition in Europe with 3-4 major competitors. We have competitors in the emerging markets too. Stoody does have a strong brand name and has a good reputation, so it needs a strong leader to build upon the existing success of the brand.


Primary Responsibilities

Continually seek new ways to grow the hard facing/ Stoody product line

Establish long and short range budgets for the product line

Coordinate Sales, Marketing, Engineering, and Operations activities associated with the product line

Ensure cost commitments are achieved to meet product line gross margins, working capital, and asset management targets


Language Requirements

Business fluent English.

Spanish would be highly advantageous

Education Requirements

Bachelor's Degree Engineering or Technical, MBA Preferred. Education requirements are preferred and not essential.

Technical Requirements

A comparable business to Stoody will be advantageous, as well as welding filler metals experience.

Experience Requirements

5+ years management and leadership experience in industrial marketing; welding industry-related marketing experience preferred

3+ years business line P&L responsibility experience

3+ years international business relations experience

Plant/Operations/Mfing experience would be highly advantageous

Proven record of team building and conflict resolution

Proven results in cost reduction, efficiency gains and process change

Possess strong project management skills and understand the importance of achieving key milestones on time, on target, and on budget

Communicate effectively, frequently and at all levels of the organization

An analytical and organized individual driven towards success

Sales and Marketing experience with focus on end-user Customer Relations

Mobility & Travel Requirements

30-40% global travel
