Position Summary:

Responsible for the development of new and improved welding consumables and modifying existing products to resolve sales, production and quality issues.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Plans and performs R&D duties as assigned to develop and test new welding consumables and applications.
  • Assists in scheduling and coordinating all activities associated with testing and proving a new product line, including trial runs in the manufacturing facility and testing in the field.
  • Works with laboratory personnel in testing new, improved or existing products. Evaluates data and makes recommendations for product improvements.
  • Works with Global R&D teams to utilize capabilities that result in shortest time to market for new products
  • Keeps VP, R&D informed regarding progress of project or need for assistance, and makes recommendations regarding changes in equipment, formulas, materials, etc.
  • Confers with Process Engineering, Quality Control and other manufacturing personnel regarding production issues. Assists in the investigations to determine cause of problem and recommends formula or process changes to resolve the problem.
  • Investigates and recommends use of alternate raw materials.
  • Keeps abreast of new developments, materials and processes for use in adaptations to company products.
  • As required, assist in resolving customer complaints.
  • Adhere to all safe work practice and/or safety policies.


Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in Welding Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Material Science, Chemical Engineering, or Chemistry.
  • Prefer at least three years experience in the welding industry. Some knowledge of welding products and their applications is required.
  • Must be competent using Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and other engineering software programs. Experience with using Alloy Design software such as ThermoCalc will be a plus.
  • Must work well on teams and have good communications skills.
